A Complete Modular System Out of the Box

The CAIXA 104 Custom System takes the NANO CAIXA 104 case and fills every one of its 104 HP with a hand-picked selection of NANO modules. Instead of choosing a case, a power supply and a dozen modules one by one, you get a coherent instrument that is ready to patch the moment you plug it in. The module set covers the whole signal chain – sound sources, filtering, amplitude control, modulation, drums and final processing – so it works as a standalone synthesizer as well as a drum and groove machine.

Utilities Already Built In

Above the main row, the case carries seven integrated utilities: two balanced inputs with up to +20 dB of gain and level LEDs, two buffered multiples, a precision adder with an octave switch, two LFOs with triangle and square outputs, a sample & hold with a white noise output, a 2-channel stereo mixer and a stereo output with master level and a headphone output. These functions do not take up any module space, so all 104 HP are used by the modules themselves.

Sound Sources and Drums

Two ONA analog oscillators provide sine, triangle, sawtooth and pulse waves, two complex waveforms and two sub-octave outputs, and each can be switched into LFO mode for slow modulation. OCTA adds four analog drum voices inspired by the TR-808 – kick, snare, closed hat and open hat – each with its own controls, mute switch and individual output, plus a master tilt EQ, compressor and a sidechain output.

Filtering and Amplitude

ST·FONT is a true stereo liquid filter with simultaneous low-pass, band-pass and high-pass outputs, crossfade between modes, mild and wild resonance and a built-in stereo VCA with soft clipping. ALT packs four clean VCAs into 8 HP; its outputs are cascaded, so it also works as a 4-channel mixer.

Modulation

SERRA is an ADSR envelope with sliders, attenuverter, offset and a manual gate button, with curves from 1 ms up to 40 seconds. ARC is a dual analog function generator – each channel works as an AD/ADSR envelope, VCO/LFO, slew limiter or waveform modulator, with adjustable curve shape, a comparator and a logic section. VCV RANDOM generates random voltages with four types of randomness, a triggerable sample & hold and self-modulation, controlled by rate, probability, randomness and shape sliders.

Final Touch and Portability

At the end of the chain, CEQ combines a DJ-style 3-band equalizer with a compressor that can gently tame the dynamics or drive the signal into saturation. The whole system sits in an anodized aluminium case with extruded rails, steel threaded inserts, rubber feet and an integrated handle, so it is equally at home on a desk and on stage.
