Squier Sonic Stratocaster HSS — Authentic Strat Feel, Entry-Level Price

The Fender Squier Sonic Stratocaster HSS MN Black brings the iconic look and feel of a Fender Stratocaster to a price accessible to first-time players. A slim "C"-shaped maple neck bolts to a thin poplar body, keeping the guitar light on the shoulder during long sessions. The HSS pickup configuration pairs a ceramic humbucker at the bridge with two ceramic single-coils in the middle and neck positions, opening a wider tonal palette than a standard three-single-coil Strat. Chord work and lead lines feel equally comfortable thanks to the satin urethane neck finish and 21 narrow-tall frets.

What Sets This Strat Apart

What distinguishes this model in the entry-level segment is the HSS pickup layout voiced in-house at Fender, with a ceramic humbucker bridge delivering high-output tone that complements the crystal-clear chime of the single-coil neck and middle pickups. Players benefit from the 6-saddle vintage-style synchronized tremolo with block saddles, which supports expressive string-bending, and sealed die-cast tuning machines that hold pitch reliably through aggressive tremolo use.

Body Construction — Lightweight Poplar

The body shape is the classic Stratocaster double-cutaway, finished in gloss polyurethane over a thin poplar core that keeps total weight manageable. Electronics are framed by a 1-ply black pickguard, and chrome hardware adds a clean, professional touch.

• Body Material: Poplar — lightweight tonewood that reduces shoulder fatigue
• Body Finish: Gloss Polyurethane — durable polished surface that resists wear
• Deep forearm and ribcage contours on the classic Stratocaster body mean players can sit or stand for hours in comfort.

Neck & Fretboard — Smooth Maple Playing Surface

A bolt-on maple neck with a slim "C" profile and satin urethane finish sits comfortably in the left hand, while the maple fingerboard offers a bright, snappy attack. The 241 mm radius and 21 narrow-tall frets support both rhythm chording and bending-heavy lead playing.

• Neck Material: Maple — bright tonal character with strong upper-mid presence
• Fingerboard Radius: 241 mm (9.5") — modern flat-ish curve suited to both chords and bends
• Scale Length: 648 mm (25.5") — long-scale Fender feel with strong low-end fundamental
• The synthetic bone nut measures 42 mm (1.650"), giving comfortable spacing for fingerstyle and pick work.

Pickups, Controls & Hardware — HSS Versatility

The HSS configuration runs a ceramic humbucker in the bridge for thicker rock and blues tones, while ceramic single-coils in the middle and neck preserve the classic Stratocaster chime. Quick access to the full range of Strat voices comes from a 5-position blade switch, master volume, and two tone knobs.

• Pickup Configuration: HSS — humbucker bridge, single-coil middle and neck
• Bridge Pickup: Ceramic Humbucker — high-output, fat tone for rock and lead work
• The bridge uses a 6-saddle vintage-style synchronized tremolo with block saddles for expressive vibrato and stable tuning
• Tuning Machines: Die-Cast Sealed — smooth, accurate tuning action with reduced backlash
• Factory string setup uses nickel plated steel (.009-.042 gauges) for easy bends and light touch

Who Should Play This Guitar

This model suits beginner and intermediate players seeking genuine Stratocaster style without the price tag of a USA-made Fender. Students notice the slim "C" neck profile, the smooth satin finish, and the forgiving narrow-tall fret wire that makes chord transitions easier on the fingers. If you explore heavier genres, the humbucker bridge pickup's added output and warmth stands out, while classic single-coil Strat tones remain available for cleaner passages.

The Squier Sonic Series — Modern Entry-Level Stratocaster
