Boss Katana Mini: Authentic Katana Tone in a Battery-Powered Pocket Combo

The Boss Katana Mini is a 7-watt ultra-compact guitar combo that brings acclaimed Katana sound into a grab-and-go format. Weighing just 1.2 kg with batteries, it runs on six AA cells for cable-free playing. This model is the right choice for guitarists who want serious analog tone without the bulk of a full-size combo.

What Sets the Katana Mini Apart in the Mini Amp Category

Unlike most portable amps that rely on digital modeling, this model uses an authentic multi-stage analog gain circuit borrowed from high-end amp designs. A custom 4-inch speaker and refined components deliver sound quality reviewers describe as exceeding other amps in its class, while the genuine three-band analog tone stack provides natural sound-shaping control.

Battery-Powered Portability for Practice and Travel

At 230 × 116 × 181 mm and 1.2 kg with batteries, the amp slips into a gig bag, while six AA alkaline batteries deliver approximately 7 hours of continuous play — or up to 9 hours with rechargeable Ni-MH cells.

• Rated Power Output: 7 W — enough volume for bedroom and small jam sessions
• Battery Power: 6 × AA (alkaline or Ni-MH) — cable-free operation anywhere
• Built-in carry handle — one-handed transport at just 1.2 kg with batteries installed

Analog Gain Circuit and Three-Band EQ for Real Amp Feel

The all-analog input drives three classic voicings — Brown for high-gain, Crunch for rock and blues, Clean for crisp dynamics — with distortion that responds to playing dynamics and input volume.

• Amp Types: Brown, Crunch, Clean — metal, rock, and clean voicings
• EQ: Bass, Middle, Treble — analog tone stack for natural shaping
• Independent Gain and Volume knobs — separate control over drive intensity and master level

Onboard Delay, Aux Input, and Headphone Output

Adding warm ambience without pedals, the built-in tape-style delay uses dedicated Time and Level knobs, while an AUX input lets players jam with tracks from a smartphone and the phones/recording output features cabinet voicing for direct recording or silent practice.

• Onboard Delay: tape-style with Time and Level knobs — warm ambience without pedals
• AUX Input: stereo 3.5 mm — jam with backing tracks from a phone
• Headphone/Recording Output with cabinet voicing — silent practice and direct recording

Who Should Choose This Model

The Katana Mini is the right choice for guitarists who need a portable, battery-powered practice amp that delivers real analog tone. Bedroom players, traveling musicians, and buskers will appreciate the 1.2 kg build and 7-hour battery life. Beginners get a simple control layout, and experienced players get a credible backup amp — though hands-free footswitch users should consider larger Katana models.
